Hey guys,
I have a EJ8 and i wanna get a swap done, but im not sure what i should go with.
I have the D16Y8 right now and want more torque, i like the sounds of the H22 swap, but dont want to mess up the handling of the car with a heavy engine.
What are your guys opinions?

K20 if you got the flow can't go wrong with a K
H22's are cheap, you blow it, get another one, AMAZING torque, lots of hp, and for a stock motor you can slap enough cars.
fork out for a good install and you'll enjoy the motor.
If your tracking the car you just have to invest into suspension and you'll be fine the h22 isn't even that much heavier then a b-series i believe ther was an article somewhere on hona-tech that clears all that up so do a search for it.

H22 is about 45lbs heavier than a B18, really nothing substancial especially if you know how to set up your suspension.
I'm in the process of building a B20 vtec. Good torque and you can use the wide array of b-series go fast parts.

I have an ej8 with an h22_turbo, I will say this, If you upgrade your suspension, youll love the h22. Like the other said its not that much heavier,I one of the negatives of the h22, is its a tight fit in the bay, and some things become a pain in the ass to change. Ie Clutch.

h22 man... They can rip on cars all day and terrorize a track too with the right suspension/coilovers. Abundant supply and you can get parts for them easily b/c they were made in North America.

Yup B20vtecs is a really nice swap, if done right and tuned right you might want to consider this swap with the budge your on.
Swap the b20b first, save up for the right parts for the vtec head swap and tuning and you'll love it.
Also like what bbteg said, highlight of it is that you can use b-series parts which are easier to find then H, but again its not hard if you look for H parts.

Where do you get your info from? I'm pretty sure Markpa laid down 175+whp on a stock h22. I've laid 174.2 on a bone stock h22 as well. B20 vtec in OEM form won't compare to h22.
Best bag for the buck, h22, no questions.
If you have the funds, go K, Parts for this swap add up quickly...very quickly...

an untund b20v is a ticking time bomb. thats y you hear o b20v's are shit! my best time with eng was 13.20 with 2.2 r/t street tire in a 2160lb gutted coupe. theres nothing you can tell me about b20 that i don't already no or bin through. and theres no way in hell your b16 would ever take b20

ya my buddy with the b20-v pulled a stock gsr ek as well, it depends on the motor and the driver, also the guy with the gsr ek was using spray on the regular not during our race tho, im sure that didnt help his motor, im not saying my b16 (has been sold) could take him strait up im just saying b20v untuned or not modded is not really that fast or reliable, but it is fun to rip on thats for sure :)

the money you spend on a b20v is a waste (to me...unless you already have a b20 in your car)
I'd much rather boost it for the same price.

Gonna have to argree with mark
Stock B20Vtec Vs Stock H22
H22 > B20vtec
Also its cheaper to swap a H22 then building a b20vtec into the car.
I was able to beat with my H22a1 vs B20vtec (Type-R head)
I was untuned and timing was off and i'd drop out of vtec through 3rd-5th (running the wrong ecu)
Now if we talk about a built b20vtec then you have a nice motor, must be tuned, built with quality parts and it'll be reliable then.
Then again a stock h22 w/ h-b plate would be putting down almost just as good numbers as a built b20vtec.
So it depends what you want, there are pros and cons from both motors
Do some research, other people will give you a bias on the motors depending on who had what and what experiences they had with it.
